Lorraine Quandt obituary

    Our mother, Lorraine Quandt, 90, of Rochester, Minn., passed away Saturday morning, June 26, 2021 at River Bend Assisted Living Facility in Rochester where she had resided for the last six years.
    Lorraine Petronella Alice (Van Beers) Quandt was born July 24, 1930 in Faribault, Minn. to John and Elizabeth (Van Houdt) Van Beers. She and her parents and three sisters moved to Rochester in 1943. Lorraine attended Lourdes High School from age thirteen until her graduation in 1948. She married Ronald A. Quandt on July 21, 1950 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester. She and Ron were married 62 years until Ron’s death in Oct. 2012.
    Lorraine was fond of crocheting and always had a project in the making. She used that talent to eventually make 109 afghans to give to family and friends. She also loved watching the birds that visited their yard to eat at the many bird feeders she and Ron kept filled year-round. Playing cards was an everyday occurrence and she was always ready for a game of Skip Bo or Kings-in-the-Corner. She showed her love for all of us with the things she cooked and baked. We will not forget the pleasure of eating her homemade applesauce and the apple pies she made through the years when she was still able to peel apples by the dozens, and her special chicken and noodles dinner, and her popular chocolate fudge cake or the Special K bars the grandkids loved. Our hearts will never forget.
    Lorraine leaves behind nine of her 10 children: Nancy (Keith) Lien of Frontenac, Minn., Marjorie (Mikkel) Hultin of Rochester, Gary Quandt of Rochester, David (Sharon) Quandt of Rochester, Thomas Quandt of Eau Claire, Wis., Steven Quandt of Lafayette, Colo., Carol Balm of Byron, Minn., Julie Gustafson (Darryl Thaden) of Dodge Center, Minn., and Debra Cole of Byron, Minn. She was also the loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandma to eight great-grandkids. Loving all of these children was what she did best. She is also survived by one sister, Marian Chrysler, of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald and their infant daughter, Susan, her parents, two sisters and an infant granddaughter, Jessica.
    Erma Bombeck said,“When you stand before God at the end of your life, you should hope that you would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, ‘I used everything You gave me.’” Mom did!
    The memorial service for Lorraine will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Her ashes will be privately interred in Bethany Cemetery, Lake City.
