Lucile Myers Obituary

Lucile Myers, 100, of Northfield, Minn., passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at the Reflections Care Suites of the Three Links Care Center.
    Ellen Lucile Drentlaw was born Oct. 15, 1915 on a farm south of Northfield in Northfield Township, the ninth of 10 children born to Albert W. and Hattie (Pritchard) Drentlaw.  
    She grew up on the family farm and attended District 28 County School near their home.  After school she helped her family on the farm and learned her baking skills from her mother.  She would also help other neighboring families as they needed help.
    On Aug. 14, 1938 she married William Boyd Myers. They lived on the Goodhue Farm when they were first married, where Boyd was a farm laborer.  In late 1942 they moved into Northfield.  They built their home on East 7th Street in 1948, where Lucile lived until living her final years with her sons and their families and on Oct. 29, 2014 she moved to the Three Links in Northfield.
    While raising her family she would help neighbors with cleaning, washing windows, and took in laundry.  She was well known for her bread baking and cookies, and baked for several families.  Lucile also babysat for 65 different families in the Northfield area for many years.  
    She and Boyd enjoyed gardening and growing their own produce. Lucile canned for the winter months so the family could enjoy the fruits, vegetables, and her homemade strawberry, raspberry and elderberry jams and jellies that were her specialties.          Lucile always enjoyed going to garage sales with her friends and finding a good bargain.  She also belonged to a group of neighborhood ladies that would have afternoon coffee parties and solved all neighborhood and city problems. Lucile’s favorite hobby was walking.  She would walk a couple times a day at least picking up pop cans as she went, as well as discarded clothing. After she returned home she would launder the clothing and if no one claimed it she would give it to the needy.  She spent many hours removing the pop tabs from each can and crushing the cans as well.  The pop tabs were all donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
    Lucile is survived by her two sons, Lyle (Virginia "Gini") Myers, of Northfield and Paul (Wanda) Myers of Lake City; grandchildren, Michelle (Vijay) Kora, Heidi Myers, Ann Myers, Lisa (Curtis) Johnson, Dee McQuerry, Nicole Villarreal, Gina Villarreal, and Stacy Woodhouse; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec.29,
1994; one grandson, Curtiss; seven brothers, Walter, Hugh, Louis, Leslie, Julius, Clyde, and Ruthford “Guzzie” Drentlaw, and two sisters, May Drentlaw and Laura Kidd.
    Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Prairie Creek Cemetery in rural Northfield.  www.biermanfuneralhome.com/.
