Marian Rolph Obituary

The funeral service for Marian Rolph will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Fr. John Wilmot officiating.  Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery – West Albany, rural Millville.
    Marian Lavonne Rolph, 85, of Lake City passed away Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center.  
    She was born Dec. 12, 1933 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to John and Rita (Branson) Mathieu. Marian attended school and graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt, S.D.  After graduation Marian worked as a bookkeeper for four years in Sioux Falls.  On June 26, 1956 she married Jerome Rolph at a country church by Wellington, S.D.
    After marriage they lived at Hardwick, Minn., where they farmed and six of their children were born in seven years.  They moved to Mountain Lake, Minn., where Jerome worked for the L&L Implement John Deere dealer and where their last two children were born.  In 1969 they moved to West Albany, Minn., where they lived in the St. Patrick’s Church Rectory House and the family cared for the church, church hall and cemetery. Jerome worked for Greenline Equipment Co.  The family moved to Lake City in 1981.  Marian started working outside the home at several local businesses and retired from the Lake City Care Center kitchen staff.
    Marian was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church.  She enjoyed spending time crocheting, and made afghans for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an auction enthusiast, traveler, and connoisseur of local diners.
    Marian is survived by five daughters, Deborah (Pat) McKnite of Rochester, Theresa (Gary) Davidson of Millville, Barbara (Lee) Partington of Lake City, Karen (Jeff) Ryan of Beloit, Wis., Sandra Rolph-Bouher (Rob Bouher) of Vine Grove, Ky.; three sons, Patrick “Pat” (Carol) Rolph of Rice, Minn., Andrew (Dawn) Rolph of Lake City and Richard “Rick” Rolph of Red Wing; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Francis (Joyce) Mathieu of Brunsfield, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rita Mathieu, husband, Jerome, brother, Kenneth Mathieu, granddaughter, April Wolf, and son-in-law, John Nord.
    Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.
