Marie Marx Obituary

Marie L. Marx, 90, a lifelong resident of Wabasha, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.  
    She was born April 9, 1925 in Wabasha, to Anthony and Lydia (Averbeck) Gosse. She was a graduate of St. Felix High School in Wabasha.  She married Walter Marx Sept. 17, 1946 at St. Felix Catholic Church.  The couple farmed on Pepin Hill on the Marx family farm their entire lives together.  In her earlier years she also worked as a clerk at Anthony’s Clothing Store and later Root’s Department Store in Wabasha.  Walter died Nov. 25, 2014.
    Marie was a faithful member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women.  She was also an active member of the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post 4086 Auxiliary, holding several offices in the organization including serving as its treasurer for over 25 years.  She also was a member of the Pepin Hill Farmers Club and the Pepin Hill Women’s Club. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and making quilts, especially for the annual St. Felix Fall Festival.  Marie was a fun loving, active and energetic woman who was always willing to help and volunteer. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and with her siblings and their families.  She will be missed beyond measure by her family and her many friends.
    She is survived by two sons John (Carol) Marx, Wabasha and Gene Marx, Wabasha; daughter, Linda Marx, Lake City; two granddaughters, Dawn (Michael) Klindworth, Goodhue and Jennifer Marx, Wabasha; five great-grandchildren, Curtis, Dylan, Wyatt, Lydia and Loretta Klindworth; two sisters, Bernice “Bunnie” Suilman, Wabasha and Lucille (Chuck) Wallerich, Pipestone, Minn.; brother, Don (Betty) Gosse, Wabasha; and nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, parents, Tony and Lydia Gosse, son, Richard Marx, granddaughter, Amy Marx and brother-in-law, Vince Suilman.
    A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Cook and the Rev. Fr. Joseph LaPlante officiating.  Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.  Casket bearers will be her Pepin Hill neighbors:  Dave and Ken Meyer, Roy Schmidt, Gary Russell, Gary Stamschror and John Klees.  Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. when a prayer service will commence and at the church on Friday one hour before the mass.  Memorials are preferred to the Amy Marx Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o St. Felix School, 100 3rd St. E., Wabasha, MN  55981 or to St. Felix Auditorium Restroom Renovation Fund, 117 3rd St. W., Wabasha, MN  55981.
