Marvin Wempner Obituary

The funeral service for Marvin A. Wempner was Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor John Berg officiating.  Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City.
    Mr. Wempner, 93, of Lake City passed away on Thursday, Dec. 10 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
    Marvin Alfred Wempner was born June 15, 1922 in Millville  to Frank and Anna (Carsten) Wempner.  He attended Wabasha County rural schools and lived his lifetime in the Lake City area.  On Aug. 3, 1955 her married Roberta Van Houten at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City.
    Marvin worked for 37 years at Gillette and Eaton (Federal-Mogul) in Lake City, starting in 1951 until he retired in 1988.  He also farmed in rural Lake City, where he raised Polled Herefords. Marvin loved horses, dogs, and never met a stranger.
    Marvin was a member of the Boilermakers Local Union where he served as past president and secretary.  He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to play cards.
    Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Roberta Wempner of Lake City; two daughters, Roberta (Richard) Brown of Montgomery, Ill. and Valerie King of Rochester; and one son, Wesley (Keri) Wempner of Bedford, Texas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one infant sister and one infant brother.
    Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17 at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
