Mary Ann Downie Obituary

Mary Ann Downie, 83, of Rochester, formerly of Lake City, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester.
    A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City on Friday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. with Fr. John Wilmot officiating and lunch afterwards. There will be a rosary at 10:30 a.m.  A visitation will be held at Schleicher Funeral Homes in Lake City on Thursday, Jan. 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    Mary was born March 2, 1935 in Portal, N.D., to Emery and Blanche (Jensen) Carpentier.  She married Donald Downie on Aug.5, 1952 in Portal, N.D.  They lived in numerous locations over their 66 years of marriage with 20 of the years being in Lake City.
    Mary enjoyed her working experience at Olson Bros. Pharmacy in Edina, and at the Christmas Point Gift Shop in Nisswa and volunteer work especially in the churches they belonged to.  She enjoyed being a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church.  The last two years they have resided in Rochester.  Mary enjoyed spending time gardening, was a gifted musician, artist, amazing cook and loved spending time with her family.
    Mary is survived by her husband, Donald Downie of Rochester; children, Kevin (Linda) Downie of Pine Island and their children, Heidi, Michael and Brian, Terry (Kyle) Oanes of Ettrick, Wis. and their children, Ken and Keith,  Gayle (Rex) Beresford of Curtis, Wash. and their children, Samuel, Stella, Josiah, Joanna and Jeremiah,  Joni Bishop and her son, Jacob, of New Berlin, Wis., and D.J. (Kristin) Downie of Backus and their children, Elizabeth, Luke, Anna, Isaiah and Jon. In total, 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Jeannie McCall of Reno, Nev.; brothers, Pat (Diane) Carpentier of Washburn, N.D. and Pierre (Susie) Carpentier of Portal, N.D.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
