Mary Ann Tiedeman obituary

Mary Ann Tiedeman, 94, of Lake City, Minnesota passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ann was born at home on October 31, 1931, to John and Anna (Rathman) Funk. Life wasn’t easy as a young girl; she walked over a mile from the Duffas farm to attend country school for grades 1-6. Her job at school was to haul the water every day from the pump for the kids. She then lived for two years in Millville with her grandmother so she could attend 7th and 8th grade. After graduating with an 8th grade education, she had to return home to the family farm to help work on the farm.
On September 25, 1950, she married Raleigh Tiedeman at West Albany, in rural Millville, Minnesota. They celebrated 54 years together.
After their marriage and having four children they moved to a hobby farm outside of Lake City, always saying it’s better to raise kids in the country along with many different animals. She remained a housewife caring for their children until age 42 when they bought the school buses and she worked for 33 years until retiring at age 75. She never realized how many lives she was going to touch over the years. She often said she could write a book about all the adventures of bus driving. Every Labor Day she and Raleigh would handwrite out all the routes, so the drivers were ready on the first day of school. They would also spend many days every August washing and waxing the buses so they were ready for the first day of school.
Mary Ann enjoyed gardening in her younger years and canning the produce from her gardens for her family to enjoy. She also enjoyed hanging wallpaper. Mary Ann learned early on how to work and shared her knowledge with her family and was never afraid to teach them. She will be missed by many. In her later years she was known as Grandma T.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Allan (Liz) Tiedeman, Cheryl (Gene) Moyer, and Greg Tiedeman (friend Ashley Robinson) all of Lake City, and an AFS son, Surin (Pojanet) Maisrikrod of Thailand; grandchildren, Adrienne (Aaron) Gerst of Dubai, Shawn (Kayla) Moyer and Travis Tiedeman, both of Lake City, and Nat Raleigh Maisrikrod, Pat Mary Ann Maisrikrod and Shalisa Cheryl Maisrikrod, all of Australia; step-grandchildren, Breanna, Ann, and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Asher, Gavin, Garrett, and Gibson; step-great-grandchildren Eli, Rylee, Easton, Samual, and Penelope; sisters, Betty Lienau of Rochester and Jean Petersen of Sun City, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Raleigh, son Bruce, parents John and Anna Funk, and her sister Virginia Feehan.

The Funeral Mass for Mary Ann will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Thé Hoang officiating. Burial will follow the service in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City. Friends and family may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
