Mary Kriese obituary
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Grace Kriese of Lake City, Minn. On November 11, 2023, Mary lost her battle with breast cancer and passed away peacefully at the age of 73 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary was born on September 4, 1950, in Chicago, Ill. to Anthony and Elizabeth Grishaber. She had two older siblings, Robert and Dorothy. Mary grew up in Rosemont, Ill., and graduated high school from St. Patrick’s Academy in Des Plaines, Ill. Her next chapter included becoming a wife and mother with her firstborn child, Tony, and later welcoming Frank and Elizabeth.
On November 14, 1992, she married the love of her life, Tim Kriese. Tim brought his children, Dawn, Theresa, Tom, and Scott, and together they created the beautiful, blended family they are today. Being a mother and grandmother was Mary’s biggest joy in life. God and family meant everything to her, and it was this love that allowed Mary to build the loving family and tight-knit extended family that surrounded her throughout her life.
During Mary’s lifetime, she was always an advocate for those in need. Whether it was during her time as a Chicago Police Officer, or working for Mayo Clinic and exemplifying their motto of “the needs of the patient come first.” The same passion she had for her careers and desire to help others carried over to her friendships and family. In doing so, Mary was rarely on time because she always had to do “one more thing”... usually for someone else!
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Tim Kriese of Lake City; four sons, Frank Garritano of LaCrosse, Wis., Tony Parisi of Lake City, Tom Kriese of Red Wing, and Scott Kriese of Randolph; and three daughters, Dawn Moss of Augusta, Wis., Theresa Kriese of Eau Claire, Wis., and Elizabeth “Liz” (Tony) Zucco of Rochester; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Robert Grishaber, and one sister, Dorothy Sobey.
The Funeral Mass for Mary will be held on Thursday, November 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Thé Hoang officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City. Friends and family may visit from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
