Mavis Sprick obituary

    Mavis Jean Sprick, 94, of Lake City, Minnesota, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 2, 2022. She was born November 7, 1927, in Lake City, Minn. to Edwin and Margaret (Strickland) LaMont. She grew up and attended school in Lake City graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945.
    Mavis worked as a stenographer in Minneapolis after graduating from high school. She was then employed at the Jewell Nursey in Lake City as a bookkeeper-stenographer for four years until her marriage to Elmer Sprick on December 17, 1949. They lived in various cities in Wisconsin where Elmer was employed with the Department of Natural Resources Forestry Department. Mavis worked at the Village Hall in Oregon, Wis., and for the home economist at Black River Falls, Wis. while living there. She retired in March of 1983 and moved to Lake City.
    Mavis was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City where she was active on funeral committee, altar guild, quilters, and prayer shawl ministry. In her younger years she taught Sunday School and was a Campfire Girl leader.
    Mavis is survived by her children, a daughter, Cynthia Sprick (Douglas Schnur) of Holcombe, Wis. and a son, David (Sarah) Sprick of Eau Claire, Wis.; five grandchildren, Ashley Hensley, Chelsea (Kevin Glatt) Sprick, Katie (James) Paxton, Tanya (Levi) Cook, and Monty (Elizabeth) Leiser; nine great-grandchildren, Dean Cook, Maria Cook, Perrin Cook, Everett Hensley, Adair Glatt, Rainer Glatt, Jude Paxton, Henry Leiser, and Griffin Leiser. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, one brother, Bud, and one sister, Marlys.
    A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Duane Holst officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
