Mildred Wood Obituary

Mildred Wood, 96, of Red Wing, formerly of Lake City, died peacefully at St. Crispins Living Community on Monday, April 13, 2020.
    Mildred was born Sept. 26, 1923 to Anton and Julia (Schmidt) Bechel in Plum City, Wis.  On Aug. 29, 1940 she married LeRoy Wood. LeRoy died in 1988. She worked helping other families, cleaning, cooking and babysitting.  She was a very hard worker. She liked to garden, picnic, play cards and to fish. She was a great quilter and volunteered with St. Mary of the Lake Mission Sewing Group as well as making many quilts for her family. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church.
    She is survived by her children, Judy (Dave) Britton of Estes Park, Colo., Jerry Wood of Arkansas, Wis., and Linda (Neal) Schafer of Red Wing; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren daughter-in-law, Sharon Wood of Williamsburg, Va.; son-in-law, William Banks of Michigan; and sister-in-law, Violet Bechel of Winona. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, LeRoy; one son, Richard Wood; one daughter, Pam; 10 siblings; daughter-in-law, Kathy; one granddaughter and her parents.
    A private family graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery with a Celebration of Life at St. Mary of Lake Catholic Church in Lake City at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City.  Online condolences maybe left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
