Richard Schumann obituary

Richard Lawrence Schumann, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2024.
Born on November 13, 1937, Richard lived a full life dedicated to his family, his passions, and his community.
An avid bowler, talented woodworker, and devoted collector of antiques and antique cars, Richard was a man of many interests. His love for craftsmanship and history was evident in all that he created and collected.
Richard’s dedication extended beyond his hobbies into his community where he was a longtime member of the Lake City Lions Club. Richard spent decades as an agent and board member at Gillford Mutual Insurance Company. Additionally, he served on the boards of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Lake City Sportsman’s Club, German Mutual Insurance, and Elite Heritage. Richard was well-respected for his leadership and commitment to the organizations he worked with.
Richard was the beloved husband of Connie (Catlin) Schumann, with whom he shared 60 cherished years of marriage. Together, they raised six daughters, each of whom he was incredibly proud: Deb Hart of San Antonio, Texas; Anita (Harv) Bue of Lanesboro, Minn.; Wendy (Cameron) Rabe of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Amy (Joel) Gaedtke of Wabasha, Minn.; Rita (Jeremy) Raverty of River Falls, Wis.; and Becky (Doug) Houghton of Lake City, Minn.. He adored his 12 grandchildren: Devin, Averi (Caleb Jackson), and Sage Tuchsen; Ashley Bue; Ty and Tori (Nate Deason) Gaedtke; Cole (Elise Elstad) and Ellie Rabe; Sloane and Selene Raverty; and Dane (Jenna Weyer) and Dalton Houghton. Richard was also blessed with one great-grandson, Eli Jackson.
Richard is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn Peterson and Lucille Thermos, and his brother, Larry Schumann, along with numerous nieces and nephews who admired his spirit and adored his generous nature. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Lawrence Schumann, and his sister, Elaine Roschen.
Richard’s legacy of love, service, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of his family and the community he so faithfully served. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes in Lake City. The funeral service will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church on Friday, October 25, at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
