Robert Polk

Robert “Bob” Lester Polk, 92, of Lake City, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
He was born March 23, 1923 to Lester and Marie Polk in Minneapolis.
He served in the Navy during World War II managing a recreational facility in the Philippines.
Bob developed a strong work ethic growing up during the Depression motivating him to become the first person in his family to attend college. He received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy, and a master’s in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota.
Upon his return from the service, Bob found his soul mate — he and Patricia (Johnson) were married on Feb. 14, 1948.
Bob’s career began as a trainer with the Minneapolis Lakers, working alongside George Mikan and John Kundla. After a few seasons, he switched career paths, as he viewed his role as a family man to be his most important.
Wanting to continue in helping others in the medical field, Bob spent the majority of his career as a hospital administrator in Lake City, Northfield, and Brookings, S.D.
Bob and Pat raised their three children, Gail (Mitchell), Michael, and Lisa (Fry) to trust in God, to work hard, and to believe in the good of others.
He was known affectionately as the “Pied Piper’s Son,” for his ability to make friends every where he went.
He will be remembered by many for his selfless spirit and sharp wit. A faithful follower of Christ, Bob personified the Word in his every day life.
Bob was by Pat’s side as she joined her Creator in 1984. He found love and companionship again with Beverly (Anderson). They were married June 28, 1986.
Together, the duo spent their retirement traveling across the U.S. and internationally. You could always find them on the golf course, passing the love of the game on to their children and grandkids.
Bob was by Beverly’s side as she passed away in 2012.
Bob viewed his roles as a brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend as a gift, always striving to be his very best self.
He is survived by his son Michael (Kathy), and two daughters Lisa (Natt) Fry, and Gail (Brian) Mitchell, brother Donald, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margaret, his first wife, Pat, and second wife, Bev.
A celebration of his life will be, Wednesday, July 29, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., and a service following at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 100 Peace Ridge, in Lake City.
Donations can be directed to the Robert L. Polk Memorial Fund at First Lutheran Church.
