Ruth Grimm obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Grimm, 82, of Red Wing and formerly of Lake City, passed away on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at Deer Crest in Red Wing where she has resided since October of 2017. Ruth was born Sept. 21, 1938 in Lake City to Marten and Cynthia (Buske) Hanson. She grew up in Lake City graduating from Lincoln High School in 1956. She went on to attend Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester and graduated in 1958. Ruth married the love of her life, Charles Grimm on April 23, 1960 in Lake City.
Ruth worked as a registered nurse at the Lake City Hospital for seven years. She helped set up a morning call-in program for seniors to the Lake City Hospital and worked with the ‘Meal-on-Wheels’ program. Ruth helped establish the hospice program in 1989 for Lake City. She served as director for four years during which time she organized many fundraisers for cancer including the ‘Relay for Life’ drives. Money from the will of a former hospice patient was used to provide the design and furnishings of a hospice room in the Lake City Care Center. All this was done with a group of volunteers which she appreciated very much.
Ruth especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, going on camping and fishing trips, and tending to her flower gardens. Over the years she always kept in touch with her nursing friends. A highlight in her life was a trip to Europe in 1985. She was active in her church and served on the Altar Guild and LWML at Bethany Lutheran and was a member of the Bittersweet Garden Club.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles “Chuck” Grimm of Lake City; their children, Thomas Grimm of Stillwater, Steven (Wendy) Grimm of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anne (Kevin) Harrison of New Hope; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Phillip, Owen, Johanna, and Brennan; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy, William, and James; and two sisters, Anna Penn, and Kathryn Mathias.
Ruth donated her body to the Mayo Bequest Program. A private memorial service will be held at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel with Rev. Steven Frentz officiating.
Memorials are preferred to Bethany Altar Guild or the Alzheimer Association.
Arrangements by Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel.  Guest register may be signed at www.schleicherfuneralhomes.com.
