Simon Mehrkens obituary

On April 11, 2022 we lost one of the most wonderful people that God ever created, Simon Mehrkens, age 19. He was smart, ambitious, hard-working and funny. Always ready to lend a helping hand or a sweet word. He was so loved by so many people and never will be forgotten. There are no words to describe the pain of our loss.
Simon was born on March 30, 2003, to Raleigh and Sarah Mehrkens in Lake City, Minn. He grew up on the family farm and joined the farming crew from the time he could walk. He loved driving tractor and maintaining the farm machinery, feeding the animals, working with family, and eating Grandma’s cookies. Simon enjoyed learning and living everyday. Driving his Duramax, listening to music, and being with friends and family were so important to him. Everyone looked to Simon for his wonderful smile and caring, compassionate heart. We can’t imagine living without him beside us.
He leaves behind his parents, Raleigh and Sarah, brothers Spencer and Eli, sister Emily, grandparents LuAnn Karsten and Tim and Patty Mehrkens, great grandmother Patsy Mundale, aunts and uncles: Beth and Matt Morrissey, Julie Maki and Todd Keitzman, Rhea Mehrkens and Kyle Smisek, Eric and Jese Mehrkens, Jon and Amber Mehrkens, Shawnell Mehrkens and Brandon Madson. He was adored by his cousins, Olivia, Madison, Grace, Kaden, Bella, Makenna, Austin, Skylee, Chase, River, Denver, Silver, Raven, Nova, Max, Wren, Sterling and Jasper. He’s also survived by his girlfriend Lauren Porisch and many, many amazing friends. He’s preceded in death by his infant brother, Lane, his grandpa Morrie Karsten and great grandparents.
Simon was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s of the Lake in Lake City, Minn. There was a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, April 16 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Zumbrota and a funeral mass at Saint Mary of the Lake in Lake City on Monday, April 18.
In Lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Simon Mehrkens Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Minnwest Bank in Hammond, Minn.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Rochester Cremation Services assisted the family with arrangements. Memories and condolences of Simon may be shared at rochestercremation servicesmn.com.
