Susan “Suzy” Hoven, 73, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus in Rochester.
Susan Kay Hoven was born in Rochester to Gilman and Iverna (Larson) Hoven. She grew up in Zumbrota and attended elementary school in rural Zumbrota. She graduated high school in Zumbrota in 1961. Through her lifetime she had lived in southeast Minnesota, Stillwater and Florida. She enjoyed being an artist and an author.
Suzy was a very caring and free-spirited person who loved life. She was often known to invite strangers to Thanksgiving dinner, and she always made enough food to feed a crowd. Most people will fondly remember her scalloped potatoes and Swedish tea ring. She would nurse any kind of animal back to health, from baby ducks and rabbits to dogs and badgers. There always seemed to be an extra pet or two around. Suzy was adventurous, willing to have fun, and yes, just a little bit crazy.
Suzy is survived by her daughter, Julie (Jody) Bauer of Grandin, N.D.; one son, Ryan (Bobbi Willers) Oftedahl of Lake City; two grandchildren, Kaylee Sue and Brady; one sister, Sandy (Craig) Jensen of Lawton, Okla.; and one brother, Jim Hoven of Port Charlotte, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, Lake City. Guest register may be signed on line at www.schleicherfuneralhomes.com.
