Verneil Roper Obituary

Verneil Violet (Hoeft) Roper of Allen, Texas, died Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the age of 77 years.      
    She was born Jan. 12, 1941 in Lake City.  She grew up on Spring Farm in Lake City. She married Harold Roper of McAllen, Texas and lived most of her life in Texas.  Verneil was a prolific watercolor artist, accomplished calligrapher, taught both mediums and co-founded The Garret Gallery in McKinney, Texas as well as having her own gallery in Sarcoxie, Mo. for a number of years. She enjoyed gardening, raising llamas and traveling the Hill Country of Texas on Bluebonnet adventures.  
    She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Harold Roper of Allen, Texas; daughter, Garnet (Mark) Odom of Plano, Texas; sons, Wayne (Jennifer) Roper of Midlothian, Texas, and Dean Roper of Richardson, Texas; and seven grandsons, Jeremy Roper, Austin Eldred, Wesley Eldred, Evan Roper, Trent Roper, Kyle Roper and Seth Roper.  She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbert Hoeft,  mother, Violet Hoeft, and brothers, Donald Hoeft and Larry Hoeft. 
   An informal memorial will be held Saturday Sept. 8 at a family friend’s home in Plano, Texas. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
