Vernon Zimmermann obituary

Vernon Zimmermann, 83, passed away at his home in Lake City on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Vernon was born on April 12, 1942 to Clarence and Irma (Wohlers) Zimmermann in Lake City, Minn. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. He joined the Army Reserves in January of 1964 and served until January of 1970. Vernon then enlisted in the National Guard from December 1974 to February of 1990. He married his wife Mary Laqua on June 27, 1981 in Lake City. He worked as a machinist and in shipping and receiving for Federal-Mogul in Lake City for 46 years. Vernon was a member of the Lake City Athletic Booster Club, Lake City Golf Course, Minnesota High School Wrestling League, an usher for St. John’s Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Lake City Sportsman’s Club.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Lynette (Scott) Albee, Lorene (Ron) Alery, and Vicki Zimmermann; grandchildren, Ryleigh Alery, Logon Albee, Mason Albee, and Carson Albee; brother-in-law, John (Robin) Laqua; sister-in-law, Rita Laqua; mother-in-law, Rose Mary Laqua; niece Julie Nunez; great niece Isabella; and pet dog, Shelly (Sheltie).
He is preceded by his parents, Clarence and Irma Zimmermann; sister, Marcene Christenoffson; infant brother; dog, Windsor (Sheltie).
A Funeral will be on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City. Reverend Robb Robbert will be officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake City Athletic Boosters, Lake City Sportsman’s Club or St John’s Lutheran Church.
