Wilhelmine "Sis" Koenig Obituary
Wilhelmine “Sis” Koenig, 93, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center. She was born on Sept. 12, 1923 to Fred J. and Elsie A. (Wilde) Murray. She grew up in the West Albany area and attended school there before moving to Lake City. In February 1941 Sis married Howard Gunderson. They were later divorced and Howard died in 1984. On Sept. 12, 1987, Sis married George Koenig at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church here in Lake City. George died in 1997. Sis worked for years as a waitress and cooked for many of the local restaurants in town, the old Royal Hotel Café, the Snack Shop, the New Blue Moon, the Lake City Golf Club and finally worked at Di-Acro/Houdaille cleaning the office before she retired. Sis was a life member of the Lake City VFW Auxiliary 8729 being active in the auxiliary’s taco program for many years and was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, embroidering, playing cards and playing bingo. Sis is survived by one son, Robert (Gladys) Gunderson, of Lake City; one daughter, Maxine Shell of Lake City; four grandchildren, Troy (Tammy) Shell of Lake City, Tracy (Deb) Shell of Orlando, Fla., Christine (Jeff) Gruber of Rochester and Joe Gunderson of Winona; three great-granddaughters, Nicole, Tara and Brooke Shell; two great-great grandchildren, Audrey and Silas McGee; special friend, Shirley McGrath; sister-in-law, Kathleen Koenig of Trunk, Calif.; along with many Gunderson and Koenig/Carter nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one sister, Dorothy Koch and one brother, Leslie Murray. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lake City with Fr. Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 20, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
