William Wohlers obituary

William “Bill” Wohlers, 88, died Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.
Bill was born on October 26, 1935, in Lake City, Minn. to Elmer and Lorena (Cordes) Wohlers. He graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato in 1957. On July 13, 1957, he married Yvonne Piipke in Boyd, Minn., and they were blessed with five children and one foster child.
During their 66 years of married life, Bill and Vonnie lived in Elgin, Morristown, Arlington, Lake City and Plainview.
Bill started his working career as a Lutheran school principal and teacher. In 1965 Bill took over his stepdad’s Coast to Coast hardware store in Lake City. In 1973 Bill was hired as Chief of Police in Plainview and also became the city’s ambulance director. He then ended his working career as a E.M.S. instructor for the state of Minnesota. During his working career Bill had a passion for the church. He preached at Immanuel Lutheran Plainview, Potsdam, Elgin, Hammond, and Theilman churches.
Bill is survived by his wife Yvonne; children, Brent (Sue), Craig (Michelle), Todd (Sandy), and Ronda (Reg) Fowler; 19 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Noel, one grandson Brian, one brother and  one sister,
Funeral services are Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. The visitation is Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview are assisting with the arrangements.
