A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PUBLICATION OF INTERIM
ORDINANCE NO. 642
BY TITLE AND SUMMARY
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lake City has adopted Interim Ordinance No. 642, titled “An Interim Ordinance Temporarily Establishing a Licensing and Planning Moratorium on the Establishment or Expansion of Tobacco Shops;” and
WHEREAS, the City Charter allows publication by title and summary in the case of lengthy ordinances; and
WHEREAS, the Interim Ordinance is four pages in length; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the following summary will clearly inform the public of the intent and effect of the Interim Ordinance; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY the City of Lake City City Council:
1. The City of Lake City City Council has adopted Ordinance No. 642, titled “An Interim Ordinance Temporarily Establishing a Licensing and Planning Moratorium on the Establishment or Expansion of Tobacco Shops.” The Interim Ordinance places a pause on the establishment of new or expanded tobacco shops in the City for a period not to exceed one year. The Interim Ordinance will allow the City to conduct a study in order to determine if anything in the City’s current licensing and zoning provisions related to tobacco shops needs to be changed. The Interim Ordinance only applies to retail establishments exclusively selling tobacco and tobacco products and not convenience stores and other types of retail stores (so long as their sales of tobacco-related products do not exceed 40 percent of their total sales in any month).
2. The City Clerk is directed to publish this summary in lieu of publication of the entire ordinance.
3. The City Clerk is directed to post a copy of the entire text of Interim Ordinance No. 642 at City Hall, the City of Lake City Public Library, and on the City of Lake City web site for a period of not less than 10 days. In addition, a printed copy of Interim Ordinance No. 642 is available for inspection by any person during regular office hours at the Lake City City Hall.
