Tiger girls golf wins two of three events during busy week
The Lake City High School girls golf team (LC) had a busy week with three events taking place. On May 4, Somerby hosted a sixteen team event with the LC squad finishing third.
Owatonna won the event with a 332 followed by Red Wing 338, LC 350, Lourdes 350, Mayo 358, Pine Island-Zumbrota-Mazeppa (PIZM) 359, Caledonia 366, Austin 379, Jordan 381, Century 381, Byron 383, John Marshall (JM) 385, Kasson-Mantorville (K-M) 405, Chatfield 416, Cannon Falls (CF) 430, and Stewartville 485.
The Tigers were led by a pair of 85’s by Ellie Kohrs and Taylor Davidson, Jordyn Dicke 89 while Alayna Atkinson and Marlena Brunkow posted 91’s. Julia Huettl also competed and fired a 100.
“We were right there again with Owatonna and Red Wing with a few holes to go, but struggled finishing off the round as the wind gusts picked up to close to 40 mph, knocking over golf carts, golf balls oscillating on the greens along with creating difficulty just getting into one’s setup for a shot,” commented Coach Steve Randgaard.
The following day, May 5, the Tiger squad traveled to the Stewartville Invite which was held at Austin for a rescheduled event.
LC won the event shooting a 339 followed by Lourdes 354, Byron 381, Lanesboro 407, and Stewartville 441.
Lake City was led by medalist, Taylor Davidson’s 80, Jordyn Dicke 83, and a pair of 88’s by Ellie Kohrs and Julia Huettl. Other competing and making their varsity debuts were Avery Ohlhaber 105 and Camryn Porisch 113.
“Our team depth came through for us today with four players in the top six overall,” added Randgaard.
The third event of the week was held at The Jewel Golf Club on May 7 as it hosted the second regular season HVL meet.
The Tigers fired a 326 to win the meet by eighteen strokes over Lourdes 344 followed by Byron 346, Byron 375, K-M 395, CF 409, and Stewartville 424.
LC was led by seventh grader, Ellie Kohrs’s career low 78, Taylor Davidson 81, Jordyn Dicke 83, and Julia Huettl 84. Other scores included Marlena Brunkow 91 and Alayna Atkinson 93.
I was really pleased with our team depth again as we had LC players finishing second to fifth individually. That’s what we are working on as a team: getting those four scores 85 or lower along with eliminating the big number from the scorecard. That will help us become very competitive when the post season tournaments take place.
