Boe: Pool unlikely to open this year

Lake City City Council member Russell Boe said it was unlikely that the city’s swimming pool would open this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Neighboring communities Wabasha, Plainview, and Red Wing – as well as Minneapolis and St. Paul – have already made the decision not to open their pools this year. “It’s unfortunate, but pretty realistic” that Lake City would do the same. “I don’t think it’s a final decision, but it’s very unlikely that we are able to open the pool.” This was to be the second year of the Red Wing Y managing the facility on behalf of the city. Later in the meeting council member Amy Alkire asked the city to think about providing lifeguards at the beach. “My guess is that people will be shifting from the pool to the beach,” she said. “And there will be more time because there won’t be as many activities for kids to be involved in.”
