Canoeing veterans get day of leisure in Lake City
“I woke up this morning to the most perfect view of the sunrise reflecting off Lake Pepin and a cool breeze pushing the waves against the shore,” Abby Kaeser wrote in her blog Sunday. “I couldn’t have asked for a more calm morning after the crazy, backwards day we had yesterday.“
She and two canoeing companions had set out from the Mississippi headwaters at Lake Itasca 47 days earlier. They are headed for the Gulf of Mexico.
The threat of weather and powerboat traffic on the holiday weekend turned their narrow and usually quiet water course into a busy expanse.
