Council sets preliminary levy increase at 8%

The Lake City City Council approved a preliminary property tax levy that’s 8 percent higher than this year.

State law requires local governments to set a preliminary levy before Sept. 30. The levy can be amended downward but not upward before a final levy is set before the end of the year.

City administration had prepared for the council a motion reflecting a 5.7% levy increase based on budget cuts made by the council at a previous workshop to bring the proposed increase down from a projected 10%.
