Encampment is Saturday

Lake City’s history as the home of a National Guard training camp and later a Civilian Conservation Corps camp is the focus of an event Saturday, July 23, on a site that was once part of both facilities.

The free Camp Lakeview Encampment will take place at the Lake City Sportsman’s Club.

From 1881-1931 the site of the club and nearby land was part of a Minnesota Army National Guard training camp called Camp Lakeview. From 1936-1942, it served as the site of Civilian Conservation Camp 713 (see related story on page 9).
