Fake news promotes city, lake

The Lake City Tourism Bureau got some of what marketers refer to as “earned media” [Editor’s note: including this article] thanks to a news release dated April 1 stating that Lake City planned to annex Rochester.

Under the supposed plan, Rochester would be continue to be self-governing but would become a borough in a “Greater Lake City Region” metropolitan area. The benefit to Rochester residents, according to the news release, would be that they would be able to claim Lake Pepin as their own.
