Family stranded in Costa Rica with injured three-year-old

A Lake City family is raising money to return home after their three-year-old broke his leg on the second day of a family vacation.

Emmee and Celso Lopez and their two sons, Axel (3) and Giovanni (1), arrived in Costa Rica July 10, according to a GoFundMe fundraising page created by Emmee.

Axel broke his femur the following day and had to be treated at the National Children’s Hospital. Following an operation, he was placed in a cast that immobilized him from the ribs down and prevents him from sitting upright.
