Fund raising campaign for monument to slain officer meets goal

The construction of a monument to slain Lake City Police Officer Shawn Schneider is set to proceed thanks to a large fundraiser Feb. 6.

Schneider died at the end of 2011 after sustaining a gunshot wound while rescuing a victim of domestic violence.

Shortly afterward, Schneider’s current and former colleagues in law enforcement formed the Lake City Law Enforcement Association, Lodge 208 (Schneider’s badge number), to plan and raise money for a monument to Schneider.
