Helgerson accepts city honor on behalf of all food shelf volunteers

From time to time, the Lake City City Council presents a ceremonial “key to the city” to people who have made outstanding contributions to the the community.

When Carole Helgerson learned that she was being considered as a recipient of the honor for her work as director of the Lake City Food Shelf, she felt some reluctance, she told the City Council during its Feb. 14 meeting.

She finally decided to accept it on behalf of all the food shelf volunteers who helped operate the organization since its inception in 1981.
