High school Spanish students speak to Bolivian miner featured in documentary

On Oct. 27 upper level students of Spanish at Lincoln High School had an exciting opportunity to do a video conference on Zoom, with Basilio Vargas, a silver miner from Potosí, Bolivia.

Vargas was the lead subject in the 2005 documentary “The Devil’s Miner.” It was filmed when he was just fourteen years old, but the social issues and difficulties he faced during his time in the mines as a child worker persist today.
