History preserved, again

Some said it couldn’t be done, that the 10 large-scale dioramas of the University of Minnesota’s Bell Natural History Museum were too enmeshed into the structure of the museum’s Minneapolis location to be relocated to its new facility in St. Paul.

The backdrops were affixed to a wall with an adhesive that made peeling them off impossible, said Don Luce, curator of exhibits at the museum. And the walls of the mid-century building themselves were made of plaster with a metal substructure.
