A flotilla of home-built boats appeared on the upriver side of the Hok-Si-La Park point the first weekend in June for this year’s Lake Pepin Messabout.
A messabout is an event where people gather to “mess about” in boats. The Lake Pepin Messabout welcomes home-built boats of all types: from canoes to kayaks to sailboats to powerboats.
This year there were 16 boats in attendance, according to Greg Lindberg, the lead organizer of the event.
First held in 2005, Lindberg said the number of crafts had fluctuated over the years.
