Lake City Kiwanis Club welcomed Lucas Youngsma, hydrologist in the Lake City Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office, to talk about local water issues.
Speaking about the much loved Frontenac Pond, Lucas related that beaver dams have kept the water levels up until recently when the water retaining beaver dam blew out and lowered the water height several feet. He and other DNR experts are looking at plans for an artificial dam to solve the problem but also possibly helping the beavers to rebuild the dam.
