Kiwanis hears about Arndt’s service as an Army nurse

During the week of Veterans Day Lake City Kiwanis learned about the life of a U.S. Army nurse from Georgene Arndt.

A Lake City resident, she served in the Army for twenty years: mostly stateside, two tours in Germany and a tour in Vietnam during the conflict there in an evacuation hospital under trying conditions.

She and the staff admitted war causalities and stabilized them for transfer to Japan or the U.S. working 12-hour days in heat and humidity with no air conditioning and no running water.
