Carter Lane learned recently that he was going to the state geography bee on March 27.
On March 6 he learned that he wasn’t going, and neither was anyone else.
Organizers had decided to cancel the in-person bee because of the coronavirus outbreak and instead hold it remotely.
It’s the eighth grader’s second straight year winning the school bee and qualifying for the state bee.
At state, 100 students vie to be among the 10 that make it to the final round for a chance at the state title.
