Local businesses gear up for busy holiday shopping season

The decorations are up, the lights are twinkling and there are snowflakes in the air as Lake City area businesses get set for the holiday shopping season.

Local businesses will give customers the day off today (Thursday) for Thanksgiving and don’t expect much to happen as crowds flock to city malls on Black Friday. But Saturday will be their day.

Stores around Lake City are going in big this year with Shop Small Saturday, a nationwide promotion sponsored by American Express that extols the virtue of small locally owned stores as a place to shop for Christmas gifts.
