A long road to commencement for one Lincoln graduate

When Ephenge Efange came to the United States from the African nation of Cameroon in 2017, she spent one night with her cousin and the next 12 in the hospital.

She had developed jaundice in her first year of boarding school at age 11. When she turned 13 she got a septic ulcer on her right foot that didn’t heal for four years and would periodically become infected.

“We knew it was something with the liver,” she said. “They thought cirrhosis, and they didn’t have what was needed to treat me.”
