Musical drama to retell the story of Stockholm’s founding

A musical drama about the immigrants from Bjurtjärn, Sweden who founded Stockholm, Wis., will be held in the village on Aug. 4, 5, and 6.

“We Sold Our Homesteads” tells true story of how more than 200 Swedes made the decision to leave their homeland and come to the United States, where they founded Stockholm in 1854.

The action takes place in Bjurtjärn (pron. BYOO ‘ sharn), Sweden, where the townspeople grapple with economic hardships, rigid social institutions, and a very bothersome local pastor.
