Orphan train historian coming Sept. 17
Historian and author Renée Wendinger will present “An Orphan Train Experience” Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the City Hall ballroom in Lake City.
The term “orphan train” refers to the resettlement of about a quarter million orphans from the east coast of the United States into foster homes farther west.
Wendinger is the author of two books on the subject: “Extra! Extra!: The Orphan Trains and Newsboys of New York” and “Last Train Home: An Orphan Train Story.”
