Patriot’s Pen essay contest begins
Commander Gerard Marking of the Lake City VFW has announced the kickoff of the annual Patriots Pen youth essay competition.
Middle schoolers in grades 6-8 including home schooled students can compete for thousands of dollars in national awards.
The VFW created the contest in 1945 “to encourage young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society by composing a 300-to-400-word patriotic essay.
The theme for this year is “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
