School considers cutting music teacher position

Several people spoke out against a plan to reduce staffing in the Lake City Public Schools music department as a way to help a predicted $200,000 budget deficit in the coming school year at the April 18 Lake City School Board meeting.

Longtime elementary band teacher Gail Huppert is retiring after this school year. School administration presented the school board with a plan to cover the school’s music programming without filling the position.
