Sheriff to retire effective May 31

Wabasha County Sheriff Rodney Bartsh, who had planned to retire in December after nearly 40 years in law enforcement, said he has chosen instead to retire on May 31.

Bartsh announced on Feb. 26 that he would not seek a fifth term in November. He has served as sheriff since 2002.

He will have spent 38 years in law enforcement upon retiring. He began as a policeman with the City of Wabasha.
