Monday, Jan. 22, will mark the halfway point of the school year. As of that day, Lake City Public Schools (LCPS) educators will have worked an entire semester, 93 workdays, without a contract. Despite their unwavering commitment to their students, teachers have yet to be offered a contract that reflects their value to the students of Lake City.
Historically, teachers settled contracts at less than the cost of living when funding was low. Recently retired educators joke that they are getting better raises from Social Security than they received teaching.
