Vet: Only sick cows can receive feed with antibiotics

Over 250 people crowded into the Zumbrota VFW on Wednesday evening, Dec. 21. They were seeking assurance that on Jan. 1, they will still be able to give antibiotics to their sick cattle.

Veterinarian Matt Dodd clarified the situation. He said on Jan. 1, it will be illegal to give medicated feeds to healthy animals to prevent disease or to spur their growth. This includes cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and any other small meat animals that are consumed by humans.
