Walkers tour city's old homes
Last week the Walking Lake Pepin group walked along the South Oak Street Historic District. Lois Borner, a member of the Lake City Historic Preservation Commission, gave a history and description of each of the homes as the group walked past. The home pictured above at 404 South Oak Street is a cube-shaped, wood framed Italianate home built in 1860 by Charles Rogers, a merchant and banker who served as mayor of Lake City from 1883-1884. Later it was the home of Elbert McCall, an organizer of The Citizens Bank of Lake City.
