What are PFAS, and why are people talking about them?

They’ve been found in drinking water, soil, and even the fish we eat – PFAS, known as “forever chemicals,” are raising alarm in communities across the country. Once prized for making products like nonstick pans, waterproof boots, and food wrappers, these man-made chemicals don’t go away. Now, as research uncovers possible links to serious health problems, the question is how much these hidden chemicals are already affecting our towns and the people who call them home. Scientific understanding is developing over time, and by paying attention to possible risks, we can take steps to reduce possible exposure.
