Nichols is lone mayoral candidate
Mark Nichols will be the sole candidate for mayor of Lake City.
When filings for the office closed on Tuesday, he was the lone candidate to seek the position.
In all likelihood he will succeed Mayor Joel Beckman at the beginning of next year. Beckman chose not to seek re-election.
Sorting out who will serve on the City Council next year will not be so simple.
Twelve people filed for three open spots on the council before Tuesday’s deadline.
