Along the Garden Path

The story of the ash tree was told in a “Thru the Garden Gate” column in a March issue of the Herald in 1995 – 25 years ago.  At that time, the venerable ash tree graced our streets and yards with no particular enemies.  No one had heard of the Emerald Ash Borer, and  little did we know the devastation he would bring to our lovely little river towns.  Let our beautiful ash trees, many of them now long gone, live on in our fondest memories.
 Of all the trees that grow so fair,             
Old England to adorn,                    Greater are none beneath the sun,
