Appointment then election to fill school board vacancy

The resignation of Lake City School Board member Jack Rol before the board’s Aug. 16 meeting leaves the board with a decision to make: who will take his place.
Rol had served on the board for more than a decade. He joined the board as an appointee and won a four year term in 2012. He was re-elected in 2016 and 2020 and began a new term in January.
Under state law, the process for filling school board vacancies depends on the time of year and the time remaining in the four-year term.
