Artist finds ideas, space in the country

Kjellgren Alkire says his rural Lake City environment and community are two of the main inspirations for his art exhibit, “Long Haul,” on display through Feb. 22 at the Rochester Art Center.

“I am really interested in language and agriculture and its subcultures,” he said.

The exhibit is a mix of sculpture, photography and performance, some of which deal with religion, some with politics and at least one of which he considers a celebration of the rural environment where he hopes his family can make their home.
